Using an Interactive Super Switch or an Interactive Power Cube

For Treating Clients in an MSE During COVID-19

You will want an Interactive Power Switch for any MSE that you plan to use for therapeutic purposes, due to their unique role in creating a transforming behavioral feedback loop with your client. A transforming behavioral feedback loop sends your client a bilateral message. One message says, “do that again” and the other message says, “don’t do that again”. Your client will receive a bilateral message with either an Interactive Super Switch or an Interactive Power Cube because either can be programmed to make the type of change your client wants fit with the action they produce.

For example, an Interactive Super Switch can be synchronized with a light effect so that a client can push a purple button and immediately turn a Bubble Tube, Marble/Infinity Panel or Crash Pit light effect to purple. This provides a short feedback loop due to the immediacy of the equipment response. The short time between pushing the button and receiving feedback, makes this transforming behavioral feedback loop ideal for clients who you believe will lose the meaning of the feedback if the loop is longer because the equipment response is less immediate.

An Interactive Power Cube can be synchronized with the same light effects so that a client can turn it for producing that same color change but, their action produces a less immediate change in color. The Bubble Tube, Marble/Infinity Panel or Crash Pit light effect doesn’t change until they have taken the time required to turn the Interactive Power Cube to the correct color. The timing of this can be quick for some but quite lengthy for people with severe physical limitations. The longer time required between initiating that action and receiving that feedback makes this transforming behavioral feedback loop ideal for clients with slower cognitive processing speed who you believe might miss the point of the feedback if it occurs too quickly.

Timing is important when using Interactive Power Switches and must fit with the temporal synchrony you are striving for with each client you treat in an MSE. COVID-19 is making reliability of these pieces of MSE equipment essential for your clients to receive the rewarding feeling of being in control of their environment through these transforming behavioral feedback loops. Interactive Power Switches add a great deal of complexity to an MSE and is a must-have for one that will be used for therapeutic purposes. Remember, adaptation builds complexity so adaptive learning is always your goal in treatment.
